Pastry Chef
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare a wide range of pastries, baked goods, and desserts for hotel restaurants, banquets, and special events
- Communicate effectively with team members and management to fulfill orders and address any special requests or needs
- Scale, mix, and bake recipes accurately according to the Pastry Chef’s directions, ensuring consistency and adherence to recipes
- Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper labeling, dating, and storage of products
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring compliance with sanitation standards
- Monitor and manage inventory levels of ingredients and supplies, placing orders as needed and performing regular inventory checks
- Ensure compliance with first-in, first-out (FIFO) principles to minimize waste and prevent product contamination
- Collaborate with the Pastry Chef in developing new dessert menu items and provide creative input on seasonal offerings
- Replicate seasonal changes in production procedures and presentation as directed
- Assist with plating and presentation of desserts to meet the hotel’s high standards
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastry Chef or Executive Chef
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Culinary degree or certification in baking and pastry arts preferred
Minimum Experience:
- 2+ years of experience as a Pastry Cook or in a similar culinary role
- Must possess a valid Food Handler’s card or ServSafe certification
Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to regularly lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds
- Proficiency in using commercial kitchen equipment (e.g., mixers, ovens, dough sheeters) and pastry tools (e.g., piping bags, molds, pastry cutters)
- Strong understanding of baking techniques, methods, and pastry arts, with a focus on both quality and presentation
- Ability to follow complex recipes with precision and execute under time constraints
- Knowledge of proper weight and volume measurements, metric conversions, and percentages for recipe adjustments
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure consistent product output
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a team, taking direction from the Pastry Chef and contributing ideas for menu innovation
- Excellent problem-solving abilities, particularly in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
- Demonstrates integrity, honesty, and a cooperative attitude towards fellow staff and leadership
